In the Notion Database I have a 'Long Covid Protocol', however I have had a number of pregnant women reach out asking if it is safe for them to follow. As there are some compounds listed in the original protocol that have not been sufficiently studied, I have created an updated protocol for those experiencing long covid while pregnant:
Table Of Contents:
28 days of l-arginine supplementation (1.66 grams daily) plus 500mg liposomal vitamin C improved walking performance, muscle strength, endothelial function, and fatigue significantly in those experiencing long covid symptoms (1). Furthermore, research has found that supplemental l-arginine may improve a number of birthing outcomes (2,3).
Lactoferrin is anti inflammatory, anti viral, and helps protect and modulate the gut microbiome. Some published case studies have found that lactoferrin was able to resolve ongoing digestive symptoms after Covid infection in children, while other research has shown it has benefit in treatment, prevention, and recovery from Covid (4,5,6). In pregnancy, lactoferrin provides a range of benefits around immune, inflammation, and iron regulation (7,8). 200mg daily of Lactoferrin may be worth implementing.
The correlation with Vitamin D status and Covid outcomes and Long Covid ocurrence is well documented (9,10). Vitamin D also offers a range of benefits during pregnancy (11,12). Aiming for optimal values of Vitamin D (e.g. ~125nmol/l) may be beneficial.
Low levels of magnesium have been associated with an increased rate of long covid symptoms, while other research shows magnesium is important for supporting immune function. Further research also shows magnesium may improve pregnancy outcomes (13,14,15). Supplementing with ~300mg daily of a bioavailable form may be beneficial.
